You are getting married, so let's face it. - it will cost you some money. However, there are so many ways that you can limit your spending but still have the most beautiful wedding. Here are my top six areas to focus on when it comes to limiting your spend.

Timings
There are three things when it comes to timings of your wedding. The first is on the actual day - consider what time of day you want to get married. If you delay your ceremony, it means you only have to provide one meal, rather than a wedding breakfast and evening meal/snacks. When it comes to food, a hot buffet always works out cheaper than a sit-down meal.
Think about getting married on a weekday - Thursday is the new Saturday when it comes to weddings, not only because wedding venues are trying to squeeze in three-years worth of weddings into one, but because it doesn't really matter what day of the week it is. It's a good excuse for your friends and family to have some extra time off to celebrate you (and then still have their weekend free...).
Then the obvious one. The time of year that you get married can have an impact on the cost of venue hire. Not as much as it used to as weddings can take place at any time of the year now. However, summer weddings will always be the most costly.
Venue
If you don't have your heart set on one particular venue, then shop around and investigate. The possibilities are truly endless. Look at village halls, speak to local farmers about using their space, woodland space - don't consider any location off limits.
Stationery
If you are a creative soul then have you considered doing your wedding stationery yourself? Attend a calligraphy class, or purchase a calligraphy kit online and practice your stills - you could then create your place cards yourself for example, which will in turn make your wedding more personal.
When it comes to wedding invitations, they can be absolutely gorgeous and set the tone for the big day, however there are many website platforms (that I have written about on Instagram before) that you can use to replace invitations if you want to keep the costs down. Or if you have your heart set on physical invitations, consider using one card double-sided as opposed to different cards for each section of the invitation e.g. Details card, accommodation - have everything on one card.
There are a lot of extravagances when it comes to stationery like belly-bands, wax seals, foliage - they are all beautiful, but consider how important those things are to you when it comes to the day. It's a straight forward way to save a bit of money.
Flowers
Flowers can be (and rightly so) hugely costly. There are things you can do to keep those costs down and still have a natural haven. Make sure you are looking at flowers that are in season at the time of your wedding - think Gerberas or Tulips in Spring, Roses in summer and Dahlias in the autumn.
Have you also considered using dried flowers? They are having a bit of a moment right now - and could save you a little money.
Think foliage, it can be absolutely stunning and can help you keep the cost down compared to lots of blooms.
Food
Are you an avid and keen baker? Or perhaps you have a good friend that loves to bake - consider asking them to bake your wedding cake. They will be honoured to be asked to be part of your wedding in that way. Trust that from someone who has made wedding cakes/sweet treats for three of her bridesmaids weddings.
Also consider creating a dessert table where you closest family and friends bring sweet treats to be a part of it in replacement of a cake.
